Antique Sherpa Red Coral Glass Bead Necklace
An antique necklace of graduated Sherpa "Coral" glass beads, made to imitate rare red coral. Most are Rounds with flat ends in shape and some barrel shapes with a few variants (see photo). Then there are two yellow flat ovals, a green flat oval, and a blue "eye bead"; all glass. There is also a bead disc made from shell. The "coral" beads are smooth with some pitting, beads range form10mm x 13mm to 22mm x 15mm with 3-4.5mm hole for stringing. From the Sherpa people who inhabit the region around the Himalayan mountain range. From the early 1900s. Some beads are chipped or dirty from former prayer use. 25" strand, 51 beads.
