Large Bauxite Cylinders from Nigeria
Here is a hefty 22" strand of Red-Pink Bauxite cylinders from Nigeria circa 1900s. Cylinders average approx 15mm wide x 40mm long (with some bigger and some smaller), with a 3mm hole. What’s "bauxite"? It is a rock, comprised of iron and aluminum, and is the primary ore of aluminum.
Trivia time: Professor Charles Martin Hall of Oberlin College developed (along with his scientist sister Julia Brainerd Hall) a method to cheaply extract aluminum from cryolite & bauxite ores in 1886. Bead Paradise is located in Oberlin, OH.
