The Tuareg tribe of Mauritania, Mali, and Niger has a fantastic silversmithing style incorporating mixed metals, fine etching and engraving techniques, and unique shapes and symbols. Jewelry is worn and fabricated by men in a strongly upheld tradition. Most of what we offer here is antique, but new things will be listed soon.

Prayer Box Pendant

This prayer box pendant containing a page from the Koran is acid etched and has soldered decorative balls. It is made of mixed metals, with high silver content (80% plus) on the front and a brass back. The wire loops can be removed if desired as the piece also has tubing across the back for stringing. The decorative center square on the prayer box swivels, and the pendant is in excellent shape except for signs of wear at the top tubing. Traditionally worn by men, this piece is from the early 1900’s, is 70mm tall and 54mm across.
