Idar-Oberstein Carnelian Agates
These stones came from the small city of Idar-Oberstein located in Southwestern Germany. The city had as a centuries-old history of mining and gem-cutting which made it an important center in the bead trade.

Large Tuareg Carnelian Pendants

Cut in Idar-Oberstein, Germany in the mid – late 1800’s and traded with the Tuareg tribe in Mali, these pendants are each uniquely carved. Worn primarily by men as a pendant, they are sometimes set in a ring or framed in silver settings as a pendant. They range in size, the largest being 78mm long x 38mm wide, down to 60mm x 25mm.

These wonderful Tuareg agate rings with arrow shape are traditionally worn as hair ornaments, braided into corn rows. Most common colors are carnelian (orange) and pale beige, but occasionally we have a grey or black agate fetish. Cut in Idar-Oberstein, Germany in the mid – late 1800’s and traded in Mali, they range in size from 30mm x 17mm down to 17mm x 14mm.
